The peacock house is a village house recently redesigned with lots of love, modern amenities, keeping old world charm. The house has a traditional South Indian style veranda, and a backyard facing the backwaters. More tradition with hand made tiles from South India line the living room and kitchen areas, while the showers have stunning views of the hills and glittering waters.
The house has 2 cozy bedrooms, spacious for a couple, ideal for a family, and snug for a larger group. A cute office / writing room overlooks the backwaters. Surrounded by amazing tropical birds, coconut, mango and guava trees, the house is frequented by peacocks, giving it its name. With a lovely selection of books to snuggle up to, the main room surrounded with open meshed windows, makes you feel like you are with the birds.
A short walk to a stunning 30km virgin beach, ideal for swimming, and walking trails to swimming spots along the backwaters, makes this house the perfect destination for water lovers. Arriving by boat is the most fun. Road access also available. Village cycles to roam around the island, come with the house. Kayaking and boat trips through the backwater islands is a must.
We are foodies, and have designed a Kerala focused village menu that will take you on a culinary ride through your stay, sampling all the curries, local catch, and snacks of the region. Our staff is super friendly and will help you have a relaxing retreat.
Lots of cultural festivals happen through the year, including the famous Theyyam festivals, which is always an adventure to add. Ideally guests come for a minimum of 5-7 nights, to really get into the pulse of island village life in the Malabar. For those wanting an Ayurvedic detox, adding a daily massage to the program, and booking for 1-2 weeks minimum, is idyllic.
We have hosted many families, mostly through word of mouth, and as a new posting on airbnb we would like to continue sharing this special place with like minded folks who cherish good food and good fun. Cheers
A cute beachside Malabari island village, accessible by boat across the backwaters, and recently a village road connected by bridge to the mainland. Very hidden, very cute. Peaceful, idyllic, friendly.

Our set menu is charged on top of the house rental, per person per day (3 meals / day). This can be customised, please let us know any food preferences and allergies in your party, before you arrive, so our chef can customise our menu for you. Vegetarians, vegans, pescatarians, and gluten free menus can all be accommodated.
